    Because of the rain, (I) couldn't go to the park.

    Due to the rain, (I) couldn't go to the park.

     (I) couldn't go to the park because of the rain.

2.  テストのために、一日中勉強しました。

     Because of the test, I studied all day.  (It's ok, but the next one is better)

     I studied all day for the test.

3. 彼は新しい仕事を得るために東京へ行った。

    In order to get a new job, he went to Tokyo.

    To get a new job, he went to Tokyo.

    He went to Tokyo to get a new job.

OK?  Well, let's continue.

比較  Let's learn a simple way to compare 2 things.

 A is ~er than B

 A はB より~

First, let's look at some adjectives (形容詞)

busy　忙しい　　　busier より忙しい

fast 速い　　　　　faster  より速い

good 良い　　　　better より良い

Now, let's look at some examples:

Spring is better than fall (autumn).

春は秋より良い。

Tom can run faster than John.

トムはジョンより速く走れる。

I'm taller than my mother.

私はお母さんより背が高い。

English adjectives have many differents rules, so check a dictionary for the correct form.  I recommend this online dictionary.

let's look at ~ため（に） and the various ways we use it in English.

1.  due to~, because~

Due to his heavy smoking, my friend has become sick.

友達はタバコを吸いすぎたために、病気になりました。

Due to the dangers inside the construction area, we can't go in.

この工事現場の中は危険なために、入ることができません。

You could also say...

Because my father smokes too much, he has become sick.

2.  in order to (動詞）~, for (the benefit of)　（someone, something).

 

In order to enter an American university, I'm studying English.

アメリカの大学に入るために、英語を勉強しています。

For my family, I work as hard as I can.

家族のために、一生懸命働きます。

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Mr. Lengua.  I am a manga character.  Manga, or comics, are popular all over the world.  I, myself, would like to become famous, but I need your help.

自己紹介させて頂きます。私はレングアです。　漫画のキャラクターです。　漫画　（comics)　は世界中で人気です。私は有名なキャラクターになりたいので、君の助けが必要です。

  How about making an English manga with me?  It's quite easy to make the pictures.  All we need is a story.

  Write a short story.  Then make a simple storyboard using drawings.

  Then, take the material to this guy.  His name is Mr. Hanson.  He would like to make English comics with you.  He can help you write in English.

  It's a great way to have fun with English.  If you have time after school, let's try.

Americans celebrate Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of November.

アメリカ人は11月の第4木曜日にサンクスギビング(感謝祭)を祝います。

We often eat traditional American foods, such as turkey, pumpkin, and corn.

Every year, the President of the United States is presented with a turkey.   They used to eat them, but since 1989 they pardon the turkey.  This turkey will not be eaten.  It is allowed to live on a farm.

There is also a famous parade in New York, called the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

Japanese and English pronunciation is quite different, isn't it?   I think that the best way to learn pronunciation is through imitation.

日本語と英語の発音は全く違います。　英語の発音を習う一番いい方法は真似することだと思います。

 We have a saying in English, "monkey see, Monkey do". 

英語にはこんな諺があります。

「猿は見ると、それをやってみる。」

Therefore, if you want to improve your pronunciation, you should imitate people who can speak English.

だから、自分の発音をよくしたかったら、英語が話せる人の真似をした方がいいです。

  If students are given the freedom to imitate and experiment, they often improve quickly.

生徒は真似したり試してみたりすれば、速く発音がよくなります。

 Let's learn another useful expression. 

When we make new friends, we often make a plan with them.  If this new friend only speaks English, here is how you can invite them to do something with you.

友達とより親しくなろうとする時、よく一緒に遊ぶ提案をするよね。

もし、英語しか話せない人と友達になりたいと思ったら、次のフレーズを使ってみよう。　

Let's + infinitive verb (原形不定詞）

examples:

Let's go!                  行きましょう！

Let's eat!                 食べましょう！

Let's sing!               歌いましょう！

Pretty easy, huh.  Now let's make some longer sentences.  Notice that the form stays the same. 

結構簡単でしょう。　ここからもっと長い文を作りましょう。　文法が変わらないのに気づいたよね。　　　

examples:

例文：

Let's go to the park on Saturday.             土曜日公園に行こう。

Let's eat curry for lunch.                         昼ご飯にカレーを食べよう。

Let's sing a song together.                      一緒に歌を歌いましょう。

If you're going somewhere to do the activity...

どこかに何かをやりに行く時は。。。

Let's play at the park.                           公園に遊びに行こう。

The next expression, Go + Verb +some , is a colloquial American English expression. 

次は米国英語の俗語的表現です。
 

Let's go do some shopping.      

買い物しに行こう。

Let's go play some tennis after work.

仕事の後でテニスに行こう。

Let's go do some sightseeing in Kamakura.

鎌倉を観光しましょう。

His term will begin on January 20th, 2009.

He has inspired Americans to face the challenges of the day and to work for a brighter future.
